At Addie's 6 month check-up the doctor prompted us to introduce Addie to puffs so that she could practice the "pincher" grasp and also in the event she found something small on the floor and put it in her mouth, she might know what to do with it. Seemed perfectly logical to us, so off we went to pick up some puffs from Babies R Us. I debated at length with the hubs about the brand and flavor we should purchase and finally agreed on the Plum Organics Peach and Banana puffs. Our doc encouraged us to pair the puffs with some water in a sippy cup so that she could also start to master drinking from a sippy cup. So, one morning last week, I gave it a go after S had left for work and she was not a fan. There was alot of drama involved, yelling-coughing-gagging-blowing and then REPEAT. I told my friend J at work about it and she insisted I get video of this - so I did. And, I'm glad I did because I don't know if this has happened to anyone else, but I'm at a loss on what to do. Not that puffs are essential to her nutrition, because I'm pretty sure there is very little nutritional value to these things BUT, they do make for easy snacks to have on hand when fussiness sets in. Did anyone else have this same reaction and if so, any ideas?? - is it just a time thing? I have continued to give them to her every morning but I am continuing to get the same reaction:( Oh..and here's the proof (sorry for the grainy pic - its my phone):

Oh my...our girls and the drama :) Mia only did the puffs for a while. She lost interest pretty quickly and I agree, not sure how beneficial they are nutritionally, but convenient none the less. Good luck!
too funny! We've tried the MumMums and LL did not take to it very well. I will try these next. I think Addie will get the hang of it and really start enjoying both puffs and sippy cup. Just keep incorporating it everyday. We started to give LL a sippy cup with water when she was grabbing for our cups. She really loves it and loves to hold it. Does Addie hold her cup? We found one that was on the smaller side so she could hold on to it better. Keep us updated!
My daughter has a similar reaction to puffs at six months, so I shelved them. Now (ten months) she loves them!
Had! Had a similar reaction.
LOL! That will probably be First Mate in a few months. Let us know if you get anything to work! :)
I did puffs last week and my little one couldn't figure out how to use her thumb and finger. She would use her whole hand and then the puff would stick to it. She didn't really care. It was funny because I could tell she knew that she needed to use her thumb and finger but just didn't know how.
We also did a sippy cup and she loves it. Sometimes I have to tip it for her.
I could watch this over and over!! She is SO funny!!!
I'm sure the Today Show will be calling soon!! Ha ha ha!!!
That is pretty funny! Assuming being in the high chair isn't a problem (cause you feed her other stuff in there, right?)
I'd try cheerios. Charlie was never a puff guy but they had no calories so I wasn't pushing them.
She is pretty young still too, but i bet she'll come around!
Thanks for sharing!
So funny!!! She is letting her inner Diva come out, lol. Wish I could say C did the same but he tore the puffs up! I thought she did a great job with the sippy!!
I swear you and I have twin lives! Ha ha! I just started Nolan on some cereal, and I seriously think his first word was yucky. He kept making faces like this is horrible mom...faces I've never seen him make until now! It was too funny! Addie said mom these puffs are horrible! :)
My daughter gagged a lot when we first starting giving her pieces of food.
Things that worked for us...
-stay positive :)
-banana flavoured baby stuff tastes bad (to me) lol
-keep trying
I can't remember which month we started giving theem- but plain cheerio type snacks were a hit.
What about trying puffed wheat?
Good Luck!
:D
*pieces of food- like the puffs :)
Awww drama girl! Too cute!
Little C does not get the pincher grip yet either and he wants me to feed him his puffs. Not my idea of what I had imagined with the puffs...
Connor did the same thing at first. I just kept trying them until he eventually loved them. They are now our church treat!
